Dr. Anthony Anyia received his Ph.D. in 2001 from the Humboldt University of Berlin. He joined the National Research Council (NRC) in 2016 as Director of Research and Development in the Aquatic and Crop Resource Development Research Centre. Before joining the NRC, Dr. Anyia worked for over a decade with the Alberta Innovates (then AITF) in Edmonton where he started as a researcher with interests in plant physiology and bio-based materials development and later held various management positions, including as Executive Director of Agric-Food and Forest Products. At AITF, Dr. Anyia provided scientific and management leadership to teams working in diverse areas of agriculture and forest products, including biotechnology & genomics, field crops and ag-fibre development, biomass processing & conversion, biomaterials and engineered wood composites. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Renewable Resources, University of Alberta in Edmonton and has authored several refereed journal articles, book chapters and conference papers.
