Gregory Glenn

Dr. Glenn received his Ph.D. in 1987 at Washington State University. He is currently a Lead Scientist in the Bioproduct Research Unit at the Western Regional Research Center in Albany, CA where he has worked for over thirty years. His research has focused on bioproducts made from agricultural commodities and has focused strongly on technology transfer activities. Bioproducts developed include building materials, nanofoam, controlled-release devices for agricultural applications, and encapsulation technology for enhancing crop production. However, his primary focus has been to develop starch-based products. Dr. Glenn has served as President of the BioEnvironmental Polymer Society and has co-organized five of the Society’s International meetings. He has organized and  participated in the ARS-Mexico International Workshop on Biotechnology.  Dr. Glenn has cooperated extensively with EMBRAPA, the premier agricultural research service in Brazil and spent one year in Sao Carlos, Brazil conducting cooperative research. Dr. Glenn has received numerous awards including the “Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition,” the “Secretary’s Honor Award” presented by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, the “James Hammar Award” presented by the Bioenvironmental Polymer Society, and the 2014 Federal Lab Consortium Far West Region Award for ‘Outstanding Technology Development’.  He has received 72 invitations to speak at national and international meetings, consulted with more than 68 companies/organizations, and has participated in 14 Cooperative Research and Development Agreements and/or trust agreements. Dr. Glenn has authored or co-authored more than 180 peer reviewed manuscripts and has been inventor on 19 patents that are pending or have issued.
